American Football formed at the end of The One Up Downstairs - pulling Mike Kinsella and Steve Lamos with Steve Holmes. The band released two albums - an EP and a full-length LP both bearing the same name - American Football. Characterized by light, refreshing melodies of dual guitars and no bass layered with soft, pitter-pattering, slow rhythms are complemented by Kinsella's high pitched, syrupy vocals. The Ep was very graceful - a small Hors d'œuvre preceding their full-length album. In 1999 the obvious progression from the Polyvinyl single comes in the form of horns and Wurlizter dabbed tastefully onto a few tracks. Mike's melodic vocals made their air meandering throughout the album - floating along calmly. The band broke up- Mike went on to start his solo career as Owen. Polyvinyl has since re-released both albums onto vinyl.
