Upon American Football's demise - Mike Kinsella came to the realization he never liked band practices anyway - in fact he enjoyed doing things his own way at his own pace. Mike's guitar playing through American Football- and his vocal stylings had finally come forward - and showing that Mike is more than just a drummer - Owen was formed - the solo project of Mike Kinsella. Using money typically spent on studio time - Mike purchased recording software and recorded his debut album simply titled Owen from his bedroom. Being friends with Rainer Maria allowed Owen to go on tour with them and instantly gain popularity amongst the indie cherubs. Owen released a split EP with The Rutabaga in which he covers an American Football favorite, Never Meant - originally released in 2002 and repressed on Polyvinyl Records in 2004. Also in 2002 Owen released his follow up to his debut - No Good For No One Now. Bearing similiarities to the first album - No Good also was very different - this album was not one continuous flow - but the songs went together like they were made for each other. No Good features the same raw honesty and heart felt vocals. In 2004 Owen was comfortable - enlisting a helping hand he came up with (the ep) - a more realized album - an expansion from previous work (the ep) was just the beginning - later in 2004 I Do Perceive. was released - the full length album that featured more than just one man in his bedroom. Owen had made a name for himself - I Do Perceive. he came out of his bedroom - and impressed- in 2006 Mike leave the bedroom scene with At Home With Owen - developing further the name in which he created - At Home With Owen created depth - a third demension - an unforgetable album. Understanding that this is not just a phase - Owen - like a new born child - has grown - gotten used to his surroundings -felt warm and comfortable - now he has taken these steps forward - and begins to explore the world around him.
