Oil: Chicago Punk Refined CD

Thick Records February 11, 2003

Recorded in an old, albeit still operating oil blending factory on Chicago's south side, 19 of the windy cities premiere independent and underground bands each came and contributed a new and exclusive track for this unique and ambitious compilation. Called 'OIL :: Chicago Punk Refined,' an eclectic mix of artists are purposefully represented. The idea to document the diversity of Chicago's flourishing independent "punk" community, and parallels of the cities varied industry in all it's grit and glory. How would you define the Chicago sound??

Recorded by Lance Reynolds (Blue Meanies, Alkaline Trio, Braid) and produced by Billy Spunke/Lance Reynolds in a 15 day marathon (that's 19 bands in 15 days), the result is a big studio sound within a rugged factory setting. OIL is both a triumph and tribute to storied history of Chicago's industry, politics and punkrock. .
